BTS Wins ‘Best in Music’ Category in Shorty Awards, Defeating Western Artists Such as Britney Spears and Ariana Grande
BTS was chosen as the winner of ‘Best in Music’ category in the annual 9th Shorty Awards for their global social media influence. The members expressed their gratefulness for winning, as they were the only representative of Asia.
Other than BTS, artists who were nominated in the category were Chance The Rapper, Ariana Grande, Britney Spears, and Mac Miller. BTS’ achievement among other global stars prove the group’s popularity and social media influence.
Members of the group could not attend the awards due to their ‘Wings Tour’ schedule. Instead, they sent a video to express their thanks to fans. “Getting nominated along with Ariana Grande, Tegan and Sara, and Chance the Rapper is such an honor. We thank ARMY from all around the world, who have been loving us through social media and also through ‘Wings Tour’.”
‘Shorty Awards’ is an annual awarding event where artists and institutions are rewarded for their social media (including Facebook, Twitter, Youtube, and Instagram) influence.
