‘Ruler’ and ‘Suspicious Partner’ Will Put Commercials in the Middle of Its Episodes
Two terrestrial dramas,’Ruler’ and ‘Suspicious Partner’, will also serve ads in mid-airing. ‘Ruler’ starts airing tonight. The total airtime of the first episode is 70 minutes. Part 1 of episode 1 begins at 10 pm, while part two of episode one airs at 10.35. Between episode 1 and 2, a premium CM (PCM / ad) will air for about 1 minute.
On the same day, the premiere of ‘Suspicious Partner’ is also arranged in the same way. In between part 1 and 2 of the first episode, an ad will be aired. Both dramas are planned to consist of 20 episodes, so there will be 40 parts with 35 minutes play each.
Originally, domestic ads in between terrestrial dramas are not allowed. However, MBC and SBS come up with this new strategy to divide the show in two parts, and then put an ad in the middle.
MBC and SBS stated that they had no problem with this new arrangement. A representative said that the ad will be “A general advertising, not a media ad.”
Currently, all terrestrial TV programs (such asKBS, MBC, SBS) can not include ads in the middle of programs just like cable tv (tvN, OCN, JTBC), therefore, this practice considered weird for terrestrial channels. However, recently there’s a discourse to start practicing similar thing (ad in the middle) in terrestrial channels.
