‘God Eun Sook’s Men’ Who Possess Great Similarities, Gong Yoo and Song Joong Ki
These days, producers from the drama and film industry in Korea are working hard to get Gong Yoo or Song Joong Ki to star in their new productions. The two actors, who rose to success thanks to tvN drama ‘Goblin’ and KBS2 ‘Descendants of The Sun’, are currently getting a lot of offers to play in dramas and films.
This year, a lot of middle-class and A-class male entertainers, for example, Kim Soo Hyun, Yoo Ah In, Joo Won, Jang Geun Suk, Lee Min Ho, Ji Chang Wook, Seo In Guk, and many others are enlisting to the army. These male actors are currently preparing themselves to serve the country. Some of them might be able to work before they enter their army period, but it is unlikely that they could finish it before they are called. In addition, these actors cannot guarantee a hit for their works. These reasons are why producers prefer to give their offers to Gong Yoo and Song Joong Ki.
There are also stars who have finished their conscripts such as Hyun Bin, Jo In Sung, Kang Dong Won, and others, however, they have shortages in terms of appearance in drama, and also poor performances in previous works. On the other hand, Gong Yoo and Song Joong Ki are currently riding the waves right now. Their popularity in Asia is also currently at its peak.
In a way, Gong Yoo and Song Joong Ki have similar parallel theory. Both actors shine due to writer Kim Eun Sook’s ‘golden hands’ and both are the spear of Korean Hallyu wave these days.
Gong Yoo has a solid foundation for his stardom. He’s able to create new records with everything that he does. Last year, Gong Yoo’s movie “Train to Busan” attracted 10 million viewers. His next movie, “Moo Jeong”, also got a lot of positive responses. After that, his comeback drama, ‘Goblin’, broke record by scoring the highest rating that tvN has ever gotten for its drama. This means Gong Yoo has bagged three consecutive hits for his latest works, be it movies or drama. No wonder the industry shows a great interest in him.
His agency also added, “After the first episode of ‘Goblin’ was broadcasted, Gong Yoo has received more than 50 offers from advertising companies. The companies come from China until South Asia. Until next March, he will be busy doing commercial activities.”
This is similar to what Song Joong Ki experienced post ‘Descendants of the Sun’. After completing the drama, he received dozens of commercial bids and all of them were successful. Similar to Gong Yoo, after ‘Descendants’, Joong Ki also has not agreed to work on a new drama out the many new scripts that had been given to him.
Both Gong Yoo and Joong Ki have become the perfect options for producers who want to cast a male actor for their dramas/movies this year. They are currently enjoying their golden period together.
