Korean Cable TV Dramas with Best Viewership of All Time

There are two kinds of TV channels in every country: Regular channels and cable TV channels. In Korea, the regular channels are those who are very well known to Korean drama lovers, for example, SBS, KBS, and MBC. Meanwhile, tvN, OCN, and JTBC are some examples of Korean cable TV channels. Not every household in Korea has cable TV subscription. Thus, it’s hard for cable TV dramas to get high viewers rating just like dramas that are aired in regular channels. However, these three dramas are the exception! They have successfully proved that cable TV dramas could also prevail just like regular dramas.

Reply 1988 (tvN)

Reply 1988 received a lot of love during its air time two years ago. Starring Hyeri, Park Bo Gum, and Ryu Jun Yeol, the drama managed to score 6,7% rating for its first episode, a quite fantastic number for a cable TV drama. Korean public favored this drama because the story is close to their own life. At the end of the broadcast, Reply 1988 managed to get 19.8% rating.

Goblin (tvN)

Starring Gong Yoo, Kim Go Eun, and Lee Dong Wook, Goblin received an even better response from Korean public, with its first episode defeating the achievement of Reply 1988’s first episode (7.5% rating). According to viewers, Goblin’s complicated and unpredictable plot is the main attraction of the drama. The latest episode that was aired on January 21, 2017, earned 20.8% rating.

Strong Woman Do Bong Soon (JTBC)

Not only tvN, another cable TV channel, JTBC, has begun to attract public’s attention by producing high quality dramas. One of them is a drama that is currently airing every Friday and Saturday night, Strong Woman Do Bong Soon. With only 8 episodes, Strong Woman Do Bong Soon already earned 9.6% rating nationwide and 10.2% rating in Seoul, a fantastic number that set a new record for JTBC itself. It is said that the chemistry between the main actors, Park Bo Young and Park Hyung Sik, is the biggest pull factor to watch Strong Woman Do Bong Soon.

Among these three cable TV dramas, which one is your favorite, readers?
