KBS Also Owns Friday-Saturday Drama, Will This Mark Their Success?
On June 2, KBS new Friday-Saturday drama ‘The Best Hit’ has premiered. This is KBS’s Friday-Saturday drama after 2 years ago in 2015 they aired ‘The Producers’. In November last year ‘The Sound of Heart’ was aired on Friday and Saturday, but this is a webtoon series and not a drama, just like a sitcom and its characteristics are different.
Friday-Saturday dramas are usually only belonged to TV cable. In 2013, tvN ‘Reply 1994’ became popular, while at the time the drama system was usually divided into daily, Monday-Tuesday, Wednesday-Thursday, and weekend, then this became a topic of conversation.
Since Monday is the time where people go to work, then Friday-Saturday drama comes with a consideration of the people’s lifestyle and it turns out that there are many viewers on these two days.
After the success of the series ‘Reply’ then tvN produced other best dramas like ‘Misaeng’, ‘Oh My Ghost’, ‘Signal’, ‘Good Wife’, and ‘Goblin’ then JTBC ‘Age of Youth’, ‘Strong Woman Do Bong Soon’ and the currently airing ‘Man to Man’ is also a hit.
Terrestrial tv usually aired their best variety shows on Friday, and to follow the Friday-Saturday format is not easy. But amongst other terrestrial channels, KBS tries to tackle this. KBS has shown its success by achieving an average rating of 17.7% in the drama ‘The Producers’.
KBS has compiled a line-up for Friday-Saturday drama with ‘The Best Hit’ later after the drama is over, they also set up ‘Strongest Deliveryman’. If this success continues, the possibility of Friday-Saturday drama on the TV screen will continue.
