Will ‘Bride of the Water God’ be as Successful as ‘Goblin’?
On July 3, tvN’s new Monday-Tuesday drama ‘Bride of the Water God 2017’ will premiere its first episode.
‘Bride of the Water God 2017’ is a fantasy rom-com drama between Ha Baek, a water god (Nam Joo Hyuk), and a female doctor named So A (Shin Se Kyung).
‘Bride of the Water God 2017’ is adapted from an original manhwa as its ‘spin-off’. Despite using the characters and the element of fantasy from the original, the drama will be set in an entirely new setting.
As a result, enthusiastic fans may feel alienated from the original work. ‘Bride of the Water God 2017’ will be the key to how exciting it is.
‘Bride of the Water God 2017’ can not be separated from tvN’s latest fantasy/rom-com drama, ‘Goblin’, due to the existence of fantasy characters. In ‘Goblin’, there is Kim Shin (Gong Yoo) and in ‘Bride of the Water God 2017’, there is Ha Baek and Moo Ra (Krystal), then Bi Ryeom (Gong Myung) and other gods.
Responding to statements which always compare the drama to ‘Goblin’, the PD, Kim Byung Soo, said, “Fantasy drama writers always have a heavy burden because of the popularity of ‘Goblin’. After ‘Goblin’ came out, ‘Bride of the Water God 2017’ also made many revisions on the manuscripts.” The male lead, Nam Joo Hyuk, also added, “I’ve prepared myself well as Ha Baek. I want to present a different characteristic.”
Will ‘Bride of the Water God’ successfully get rid of ‘Goblin’ shadows?
