Gong Yoo Special: ‘Coffee Prince’
‘Coffee Prince’ was one of MBC’s successful drama back in 2007. Starring Gong Yoo and Yoon Eun Hye as the main characters, this drama achieved soaring success and scored more than 20% average rating.
‘Coffee Prince’ tells the story of Go Eun Chan (Yoon Eun Hye), who has to work hard to pay her family’s debts. Go Eun Chan pretends to be a boy so she could work in a coffee shop. Meanwhile, Choi Han Gyul is the heir of a company. Han Gyul meets Eun Chan and they undergo a complicated love story together.
Gong Yoo plays the role of Choi Han Gyul. Han Gyul dreams to work in a game company abroad, but his dream is not supported by his family, who want him to continue their family’s company in Korea. In the beginning of the drama, Han Gyul’s character seems to be a playboy who likes to play and flirt with women, but actually, Han Gyul is a man who could only love one woman. That woman is Go Eun Chan.
Through this drama, Gong Yoo managed to achieve his first big success in a drama. Unfortunately, after this drama ended, Gong Yoo had to enlist in the military. He came back in the drama scene in 2009.
