TOP is Sentenced to 2 Years Probation for His Marijuana Case
Big Bang’s TOP is subjected to probation by Seoul court for his drug abuse. In October 2016, TOP was shocked to find out that the cigarette he smoked was marijuana. The police sent TOP to the prosecutor’s office for further investigation, and last June, the prosecutor submitted TOP to court on charges of violating the drug management law.
During the hearing, the prosecutor reported to the public that TOP admitted to have smoked marijuana 4 times. “He himself admitted to sucking marijuana. The prosecutor gives him probation sentence for two years. If he violates it, he will get 10 months imprisonment, with a fine of 12,000 won.” In other words, the court’s decision is the same as the prosecutor’s charge.
On the day of the trial, the prosecutor said “The defendant acknowledges all charges and is willing to receive all of the punishment imposed. The charges are put upon him because Drug-related crimes do not only hurt the health of individuals, but can also cause adverse effects on other crimes.”
“As an entertainer, the defendant has disappointed fans and family. The fact that he (TOP) admitted his mistakes and his actions, his promise not to repeat his wrongdoing, and considering the fact that this was his first act, we decided to lessen his sentence to 10 months jail time with 2 years of probation.”
