During the Japanese colonial period, many Joseon people were sent into Hashima Island, an isolated island. Once inside, no one could not get out. The people even called it hell.

In this film, Lee Gang Wook (Hwang Jung Min) and his daughter climbed into a warship because they believe they would be sent to Japan. The great Choi Chil Song (So Ji Sub) is described as someone who’s great at fighting. Park Moo Young (Song Joong Ki) is an independent who sneaked into the warship, while Lee Jung Hyun’s character is a man who was forced to board the warship a year later.

Director Ryu Seung Wan said, “As soon as I saw the image of the warship, the escape story appeared,” and then he also revealed, “It feels like a big prison, and I want to make a movie out of it so more people can see it. I think I can make it great if my will is clear enough.”

So Ji Sub said, “The spiritual hardship of the historian seems a little more difficult than physical pain,”. Song Joong Ki also delivered, “There is a depressing feeling from doing this work.”

Hwang Jung Min revealed, “When we were filming, I thought, ‘we’re only shooting a movie, but I cannot stand the situation already’, so I was wondered how it would be like if it was real. How do we know the blockage? How will we escape?”

‘Battleship Island’ will be released in July.
