In Korea, one can be said to be one of idol fans by joining in a community of idol groups commonly known as fancafe. Through the community the fans can find out the latest info from their idol group, get to know and chat with fellow fans. They can also interact directly with the idol. The popularity of an idol group can be seen through the number of registered members and active member in the fancafe. The growing number of registered fans is a great pride for both the fans and the idol group. Here are 3 idol groups that have the most fancafe members in October 2017.

  1. BTS

    Bangtan Boys or commonly called BTS is a boyband under the agency Big Hit Entertainment and debuted on June 12th, 2012. The group consists of Rap Monster, Jimin, Suga, J-Hope, Jung Kook, and Jin has just released their new album entitled ‘Love Yourself : Her’ on September 18th, 2017. BTS was ranked first with the most fancafe members with a total of 639,922 members. They experienced an increase of 25,336 members compared to the previous month. The success of BTS is not only in Korea but also throughout the world. This can be proven through their remarkable achievements, one of which is winning the Top Social Artist Award at the Billboard Music Awards. BTS is the first Korean artist to win an award at the Billboard Music Awards.

    Following in the second rank is a boyband who is under the agency SM Entertainment which is TVXQ. TVXQ’s fancafe currently has 331,462 members. Despite their decline of 632 members from the previous month, the return of Yun Ho and Chang Min to the music world after serving in the military made everyone put great expectation on them. Previously TVXQ once held a record for boyband with the most fancafe members that reach more than 800,000 members. But a while ago, the Daum site made a massive elimination of fancafe accounts that were no longer active, causing TVXQ’s numbers to drop drastically. Meanwhile, TVXQ will release an album and hold a Dome Tour in Japan this year. In addition, they are also actively performing in various shows in Korea.

    The third idol group is Wanna One with fancafe members of 272,998 members. As a newcomer, Wanna One shows their fame by being in the top ranks of the most fancafe members. They experienced an increase of 13,662 members from the previous month. Wanna One is a boyband formed through one of the famous programs called ‘Produce 101 Season 2’. The group consists of Kang Daniel, Park Ji Hoon, Hwang Min Hyun, Lee Dae Hwi, Kim Jae Hwan, Ong Seong Woo, Park Woo Jin, Lai Guan Lin, Yoon Ji Sung, Bae Jin Young and Ha Sung Woon debuted on August 7th, 2017. They will be promoting under the agency YMC Entertainment and CJ E & M until December 31st, 2018. Despite its temporary promotion period, Wanna One managed to gain a lot of love and support from fans both in Korea and abroad.
