A Look Back at ‘Goblin’ Episode 1-1 “The King’s Betrayal”
The first episode of ‘Goblin’ was opened with a narration. “”When a strong desire dwells in many things that are touched by a mortal’s soul, then these things will become a Goblin.”
A street vendor grandma tells the story of Goblin to her customer.
The woman customer laughs upon hearing the story of Goblin, who’s looking for his bride only to end his life, though she admits that the story is both romantic and sad. After hearing the story, the woman chooses a jade ring and asked the grandma to be there when she comes back.
The next scene shows a man walking gallantly through city streets. He is Kim Shin (Gong Yoo). Then, Kim Shin sees a kid with scars in the corner of his mouth escaping from home.
Kim Shin advises the kid not to run from home, which makes the kid confused because he doesn’t know Kim Shin.
The scenes continues with a flashback to Goryeo era.
In the next scene, we see Kim Shin as a leader in a war. Using a bloody sword, he fights his enemies without fear.
The war is won by Kim Shin, and the people of the village bow to him when Kim Shin’s group pass by them on their way to the palace. Kim Shin orders a guard to open the door.
However, the palace does not welcome them kindly. Kim Shin’s group is even considered as traitors.
When the guard’s door is finally opened and Kim Shin starts to enter, everyone is shooting their arrows toward him.
The King’s advisor whispers to the young King (Kim Min Jae) that Kim Shin is a threat to the King’s family. The advisor suggests that the King takes a decisive act toward Kim Shin.
Kim Shin approaches the Young King to say something. He walks past the Queen (Kim So Hyun), who declares that she will supports him whatever happens. Suddenly, an arrow hits the Queen’s chest and kills her.
Kim Shin keeps walking to approach the King, making the Advisor orders his subordinates to kill Kim Shin. A loyal soldier comes to Kim Shin and hesitantly stabs Kim Shin’s sword to the owner’s chest.
Kim Shin is killed with his sword hanging in his chest. Per the Advisor’s order, his body is thrown in a field.
