A Look Back at ‘Goblin’ Episode 1-2 “The Fateful Encounter With The Bride”
Continuing from the part one, the scene was followed by the appearance of Grim Reaper (Lee Dong Wook).
A man, who was wearing an all black suit, was seen nonchalantly strolling around the quiet road. When he was crossing the road, suddenly a car hit him. However, he only stopped moving while the car almost got crushed.
There was a corpse hidden in the trunk of the car. The mysterious man then approached the woman’s soul whose corpse was laying in the trunk and said, “Hwang Mi Young, 25 years old. Born on 3 April 1973. Died on 1 February 1998 at 08:32. The cause of the death was out of breath”.
Then the mysterious man took the woman to a place where he offered her a drink to erase her memories.
Just when the mysterious man was in the middle of his work, suddenly Kim Shin passed by the place.
“Goblin?”
“Grim Reaper?”
The scene then followed by the appearance of Kim Shin who was warmly greeted by an old man with his grandson. The boy’s name was Duk Hwa. Even though Kim Shin tried to get along well with Duk Hwa, the boy showed an unpleasant attitude in front him which made his grandfather scolded him.
After that, a scene from the past was shown. A grandfather and his son were crying in the field where Kim Shin died. It seemed that the time for the grandfather to leave had nearing, so he gave a responsibility to his grandson to serve Kim Shin.
Suddenly a lightning struck and the sword shook greatly. Kim Shin rose from his death and said he had to go somewhere.
Kim Shin went to the palace. There he met the King’s eunuch and choked him to death.
When he was back to the field, the old man had passed away. The grandson said that he would serve Kim Shin. The duo then left to start their journey by taking a boat. However, it turned out that the ship they took was full of evil people who made Kim Shin upset.
The story then went back to the present year. Kim Shin, who could hear everything, caught the sound of a car crashing somewhere. It turned out the woman who appeared in episode 1 got into a car accident. Kim Shin came to save her.
Not long after, the grim reaper came to the scene, but he couldn’t find anyone there.
Years passed and the woman gave birth to a girl whose name was Ji Eun Tak. The ghosts around her always told her that she was the goblin’s bride. She also got a weird mark on her shoulder.
One day, when she came home, she found her mother had prepared her a birthday cake. Eun Tak then blew the candles and realized that her mother had passed away.
Ji Eun Tak then met the old woman and Grim Reaper. The Grim Reaper was taken aback because Eun Tak could see him. He revealed that her mother had passed away and that Eun Tak was a missing soul. The old woman fought the Grim Reaper away before he could harm Eun Tak.
10 years had passed. The old woman changed her appearance into a beautiful young woman. She met Duk Hwa who said, “Up for a drink?” which she replied with a yes.
Ji Eun Tak had grown up to a high school student. The ghosts around her always disturbed her. Then she met Kim Shin by chance. They made an eye contact while they were passing each other.
Back to his house, Kim Shin seemed to have a plan to leave Korea. It made Duk Hwa’s grandfather sad. Ji Eun Tak who lived with her aunt’s family was having a rough time because her aunt didn’t love her.
She went to the beach and made a wish before blowing the candles. Kim Shin who was in another place suddenly got summoned right in front of her. He heard Eun Tak’s wishes.
Eun Tak got surprised by his sudden appearance. Kim Shin asked her how she could call him, but she also did not know how. Then he suggested her to say goodbye to her aunt’s family. He also told her that she would find a job in a restaurant. After that, he disappeared.
When he was back home, he was shocked to find the Grim Reaper. It appeared that Duk Hwa rented his house to him. Their relationship did not go well because both of them were very competitive to each other.
Ji Eun Tak met Kim Shin again when she blew a fire that accidentally summoned Kim Shin. After several times she summoned him by accident, she then realized that she could call him anytime just by blowing a fire.
When she summoned him in a bookstore, she told him that she knew Kim Shin was a goblin and that she was his bride. However, Kim Shin did not show any interest in her.
When Kim Shin opened a door and appeared in Canada, Ji Eun Tak followed him. She was amazed by his ability and said happily, “I will marry you. I think you really are a goblin. I love you”.
