The Disappointment of Pre-Production Drama ‘Hwarang’ and ‘Saimdang’
From ‘Hwarang’ to ‘Saimdang’, these dramas are a failure in box office which saddened the public.
‘Hwarang’ which started airing last December gathered several famous actors and actresses, such as Park Seo Jon, Go Ara, and Park Hyung Sik. The drama has also finished 100% of its production. However, episode 14 of the drama only gained a 9,1% rating which is the smallest among SBS’ ‘Defendant’ (18,1%) and MBC’s ‘Rebel’ (10.0%).
SBS’ newest drama, ‘Saimdang’, also experienced the same. The drama which is chosen by the ‘Hallyu Star’ Lee Young Ae after 13 years of hiatus is a total disappointment as well. It got defeated by KBS2 ‘Chief Kim’ which topped the rating.
This is not the first time for the pre-production drama like ‘Hwarang’ and ‘Saimdang’ to get a low rating. Last year, SBS’ ‘Moon Lovers: Scarlet Hearts Ryeo’ and KBS’ ‘Uncontrollably Fond’ which were starring some big stars such as Lee Joon Ki, IU, Kang Haneul, and Kim Woo Bin, couldn’t save them from getting a low rating.
However, it doesn’t mean that all of pre-production drama is not promising. Last year, KBS2 ‘Descendants of the Sun’ which had a unique storyline and production was a big hit, it also made the actors become famous not only in Korea but also overseas.
