Lee Young Ae’s Return After 14 Years, Good Start But Ends with A Disappointment
The work that marks the return of Actress Lee Young Ae to the drama industry after 14 years, SBS ‘Saimdang’, has attracted great attention.
On May 4th, in the 28th episode of ‘Saimdang’, Saimdang (Lee Young Ae) and Lee Kyum (Song Seung Heon) were reunited. Both of these people left the audience with a happy ending. ‘Saimdang’ finished the filming in 11 months, starting from August 2015 to June 2016. This pre-production drama has been facing problems and got postponed.
The final reversal, its first airing got a 15.6% rating (Nielsen Korea) and was not a bad start. But after that, the rating did not increase, KBS 2TV ‘Chief Kim’ ranked first.
Previously KBS also had a pre-production drama, ‘Descendants of the Sun’, which showed a different case because the drama was a success. Just like other pre-production dramas, ‘Saimdang’ also received various criticisms. The crew had different ways of editing a show, they also reduced the number of broadcasts to speed up the promotion but to no avail.
The decision to make Lee Young Ae play two roles is a good choice, but critics assume that she did not deliver it well and that her acting did not get into the hearts of viewers. Does not meet the desires of the audience which is dominated by various timeslips. She reinterpreted the life of Saimdang who tried to keep her love while balancing as a beautiful and amazing mother.
