‘Ruler’ #1: The King Forces Yoo Seung Ho to Cover His Face with Mask
MBC’s new drama, ‘Ruler: Master of the Mask’, which first episode aired on the 10th of May, The King (Kim Myung Soo) covered his son’s face with a mask to protect him from an evil organization.
When he was a baby, the crown prince Lee Sun (Yoo Seung Ho) is secretly poisoned by Pyeon Soo Hoe organization as a form of threat against the King, as well as his son. Little Lee Sun managed to get through the crisis by drinking the concoction the King got from the organization’s chairman. The King then got determined to protect Lee Sun by putting mask on his son’s face, so that no member of the Pyeon Soo Hoe organization knows the face of Lee Sun. “This little boy should be a good and wise king,” The King then spread false news to the Joseon residents that “Lee Sun’s face was damaged by poison.”
Lee Sun finally uses a mask to hide his face all the time. As a child, Lee Sun once watched someone killed just by looking at his face. As he grew older, Lee Sun wondered why he should always wear a mask.
Frustrated, Lee Sun then decides to escape the palace and remove his mask. He also wore clothes just like the one that is worn by ordinary folks. It was then that Lee Sun knew the realities of the lives of Joseon people, who are suffering because Pyeon Seo Hee monopolized the water supply.
