Did Gong Yoo and So Ye Jin Win in Asian Film Awards?
On March 21, the 11th Asian Film Awards was held in Hong Kong Cultural Center.
Having been held since 2007, this year the award honored 34 films from 12 countries in Asia, a quite significant increase from only 9 countries last year.
Gong Yoo was nominated in the Best Actor category for his ‘Train to Busan’ performance, along with co-star Ma Dong Seok in Best Supporting Actor category.
Another contender from South Korea was Son Ye Jin, who was nominated for Best Actress category for her performance in ‘The Last Princess’. In this category, Son Ye Jin went against Chinese actress Fan Binbing.
Sadly, both ‘Train to Busan’ and ‘The Last Princess’ did not win any category in which they were nominated.
Other than ‘Train to Busan’ and ‘The Last Princess’, other favorite nominees were ‘The Wailing’ and ‘The Age of Shadows’. ‘The Wailing’ was nominated for Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Supporting Actor (Jun Kanimura) category, while ‘The Age of Shadows’ was nominated for Best Picture and Best Composer. ‘The Wailing’ managed to win with director Na Hong Jin receiving the Best Director award, and Mowg from ‘The Age of Shadows’ taking the honor as Best Composer.
