‘Battleship Island’, a film which took on the theme of Japanese Colonial Period, achieved a remarkable response even before it was released. Late last month, rthe crew released commentary previews of the casts: Hwang Jung Min, So Ji Sub, Song Joong Ki, Lee Jung Hyun, along with their still cuts from the film. Those alone have received an overwhelming response from the public.

The totality of the players in portraying the tortured Korean characters living on Japanese warships has attracted public attention.

Hwang Jung Min acts as conductor Lee Kang Ok; Song Joong Ki as Park Moo Young, an independence soldier; So Ji Sub as top fighter Choi Chil Sung; and Lee Jung Hyun as Mal Nyeon. In particular, their appearance before and after entering the warship should show a clear distinction, so the players tried losing weight to make their characters look even more realistic.

Battleship Island’s production team conveyed, “Hwang Jung Min and Song Joong Ki focused more on removing fat than focusing on their weight, while So Ji Sub reduced around 4-5 kgs of weight during filming.”

In addition, “Lee Jung Hyun was also willing to lose weight up to 36.5 kg for this movie.” In this film, Lee Jung Hyun plays Mal Nyeon, a Korean woman who does not give up despite being tortured by Japanese people. The audience can see the quality acting of Lee Jung Hyun and other actors’ acting for themselves when the film is released in July.
